A FROME care home resident’s wish to watch a wrestling match was granted.

When Roy Lambert, aged 96, a resident at Care UK’s Rossetti House, on Welshmill Lane, shared his passion for wrestling and wanted to see a match, the team wasted no time in making his wish come true.

Team members surprised Roy with a special trip to watch the tough fighting talk and takedowns at CFS Professional Wresting’s All Nations Championship at the Cheese and Grain

After the match, Roy was treated like a VIP when he had the opportunity to meet his wrestling heroes Jake McCluskey, The Blockbusters, Bane ‘n’ Bronson and the All Nations Champion NIWA, who showed him his winning belt.

Roy said: “It was a great evening, and I really enjoyed the atmosphere, everyone was there to have fun. My favourite thing was meeting the wrestlers after the show, they really looked after me.”

The visit was part of the home’s Wishing Tree Initiative, which encourages residents to put their wishes forward, allowing them to reconnect with a past hobby or try something completely new – from flying a plane to enjoying a night at the opera, no wish is too big or small.

Philip Vale, general manager at Rossetti House, said: “We were delighted to create a memorable afternoon for Roy, which fulfilled his passion for wrestling. It was fantastic to surprise him and see what a wonderful time he had.”

“At Rossetti House, we love to support residents’ wellbeing with activities and trips that are important to them. We encourage residents to continue to enjoy their favourite pastimes and share memories which hold special importance to them.

“The team was thrilled to be able to organise this trip for Roy – he hasn’t stopped smiling since.”

Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, Rossetti House incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities. The building has been designed to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities and encourage social interaction among the residents.

CSF Professional Wrestling has entered its 26th year of live events in 2024, and is promising some ‘huge’ events and some ‘incredible names’ throughout the year.

The next two events will take place in Devizes on Sunday, April 14, and in Weston-super-Mare on Saturday, April 27.
