A lot of you felt last week’s Mystery Photograph was a bit easier compared to previously, well done to everyone who guessed Mells Park House, the photograph was taken after the fire in 1917.

Well done to the following for guessing Mells correctly: Paul Hancock, Alfie Besser, Alan Norris, Norma Norris, Jurgen & Bobby Gregory, Allison Jones and Eric Brain.

Thank you to Jeff Parsons who said: “I think this week’s picture shows the fire damaged Mells Park (or Park House). I think this was in 1917.

“The property was demolished and subsequently (c 1925?)  a new house to the design of Sir Edwin Lutyens was erected.”

Thank you to Dave Seddon, who provided an insight into the emergency services of the time: “The house might have been saved if Frome Fire Brigade had arrived promptly, but apparently they could not quickly find horses to pull their equipment.”

“Radstock Fire Brigade were also called but their fire engine got stuck in mud on the way.  Bath Fire Brigade were also requested to attend but they refused on the grounds that Mells was too far away.”

Do you recognise where this week’s Mystery Photograph was taken?
